Week Five! Sorry for miss the tutorial class..

Hello everyone,  Edwin Yau here. Today I will share about what I was learned it is 4th Chapter, Mind Your Grammar. and to make apologies because of miss the 10 May 2017,(Wednesday) 09:00-11:00 tutorial class, at the day I woke up wit a strange feeling. I could not open my eyes. Sorry for miss the class... So now let start the chapter.

8 May 2017,(Monday) 11:00-1:00
Subject-Verb Agreement. Have main 4 rule.

The first rule of subject-verb agreement is Basic Principle. It is singular subjects need singular verbs, the plural subject needs plural verbs. Example- My mother is a scientist.

Next, the second rule is the indefinite pronouns, anyone, everyone, someone, no one, nobody is always singular and therefore, requires singular verbs. Example- Somebody has left his laptop.

Furthermore, the third rule is some indefinite pronouns such as all, some are singular or plural depending on what they're referring to. But by careful the referred to countable or can't be count. Example- Some of the white rice are missing.

The last rule is phrases such as together with, as well as, and along with are not same as and. The phrase introduced by as well as or along with will modify the earlier word, but it does not compound the subjects. Example- The mayor and his brothers are going to the jail.

Therefore, I also learned about the Punctuation. Punctuation is used to clarify the meaning of what is written.

This is the example for  punctuation

*Reference only*

Next, is about the Confused Words. They look alike, sound also alike. But have completely different meanings.
Example:
Effect- usually a noun meaning a result or the power to produce a result.
Affect- usually a verb meaning to have an influence on.

That's all for the week five,  conclusion in this week is "spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure." when we can write a good email or a letter it can be attract more audience and make more sales or experience in the company. I hope that next class can be more fun and I will go on time.

Thanks, reader and see you~

  • Describes a person, place, thing, or idea.

Week Three! Enjoy My English~

Hello, is me again! Today, I will share about what I was learned in the third week of English Writing Skills class.

25 April 2017,(Tuesday) 09:00-11:00

2nd Chapter, Audience and purposeFor this chapter, as a reader, and as a writer, the first time you approach a text it is important to think about purpose and audience. We must know Why am I writing this?Who am I writing this for? What sort of writing will suit this purpose?, and last What style do I need to write in?. So this all can identify the audience and purpose of writing.

Audience:-
The definition of the audience is an author's is the particular group of readers or viewers that the writer is addressing. After that, we must consider our articles is standing at two main factors which are Who is it for? and What do you know about them? There have 4 types to addressing which are yourself, personal friend(s), person(s), and also remote audience.
After than that, I have learned to identify our audience with five ways which are age, group, languageincome and status, and race and ethnicity. These are the way to define the term audience and to identify the audience.

Purpose:-
The definition of the purpose is an author's  purpose is his or her main reason for writing. So below is the four reasons of the purpose for writing which are DEEP.
D(to describe)
E(to entertain)
E(to explain)
P(to persuade)

Lastly, I have learned is Rhetorical Triangle. Three things that have the greatest impact on an argument:
-The writer
-The audience
-The context

Below is the graph of the Rhetorical Triangle.
We need focus on-
(Ethos)
Speaker/ Writer

(Pathos)
Audience/ Reader

(Logos)
Subject/ Topic

The three points relate directly to the three classic appeals you should consider when communicating.

These are the way to define the term purpose and to identify the purpose.

That's all for the third week, what have I learned this week is "Am I writing to one person or more than one?" when as a writer or a reader we need to identify our target audience and also purpose of writing. However writing to who, we need to insure that what we done is right and people will believe your choice. I hope that next class can be more fun! And we learn more and together to my reader. Thanks, and see you soon.

Hello, every reader! I am Edwin Yau, today is my first day to share study life at PORTMAN College in this blogger, also I write this blog is to sharing my personal feelings when I was learned in the second week of English Writing Skills class.

17 April 2017,(Monday) 11:00-1:00

First, the thing that I would like to share is learned and discussed from English Writing Skills in the lecture class. For the 1st chapter, What Is Writing Skill? Hmm... writing is important? Yes! Whatever you hate, dislike or whatever bad thing you must learn to improve your writing skills.(Now I still learning process...) When you chat or comment on Facebook, WhatsApp, and WeChat mostly you comment using English right? So keep it up learning and improve your writing skills! Back to the chapter, after the point next was Definition of writing, so the definition is to communicate specific information or ideas, utilizing the formats, language, and content relevant to workplace. If you need more detail you can google it and search.(crack a joke XD). Next, The ABC's of Writing which is A for Accessible, B for Basic and C for Clear. Furthermore, Process of Writing which is Pre-writing > Drafting > Revising > Editing > Publishing. This all process like now what I doing. More than, Principles of Writing which is a good writer must include 6+1 Writing Traits, it was ideas, organizations, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions, and presentations. Last but not least, Categories of writing which is two categories one is poor writing and good writing. When you learned of this chapter you are:
  • Able to define and understand the concept of writing
  • Able to differentiate the types of writing
  • Able to identify the process of writing
  • Able to know the difference of a good writer and good writing
(Congrats to me XD)

19 April 2017,(Wednesday) 11:00-1:00

Next, English Writing Skills in tutorial class. we have a quiz for the chapter one. After the quiz, Our lecturer asked us to write a poem with the theme 'LOVE' and we form a group with four people.
